Veer returned to his lab and started to work on this new tack. He examined the signal that was running on a visual monitor and studied the wave pattern. As he amplified the visual, he was able to analyze the content. There it was—another signal was embedded into the news feed, and his signal was wrapped around that signal. The two signals had meshed into something very different from what either had started out as. Even if he shut his signal down, the altered signal would continue. He had to locate the origin of that other signal and shut it down.
He groaned inwardly. I’ll have to move almost all my equipment and operation up to the sixth floor to trace the other signal back to its source. Veer looked around his lab. He’d need practically his whole lab up there to accomplish what he needed to do, and all the elevators were down. He thought for a moment, then decided he’d just have to carry all the equipment he needed up nine flights of stairs. Why did my lab have to be on sublevel three? he lamented. Well, I can at least use a powered hand truck to carry as much as I can on each trip.
